FREE events for all the family
This May Half Term the team at Groundwork North Wales and their partner organisation Wild Ground are running a programme of free family-friendly events across North East Wales. There is a range of crafts, environmental and nature-based activities to enjoy, with some fun and interesting sessions planned.
On Tuesday 30th May Join our Healthy Rivers: Healthy Communities team at King's Mills to learn all about the river and make crafts from the surrounding nature. This family friendly craft session making Mini Rafts & Pirate Hats is from 10 am until 2pm.
Join the Our Back Yard, team at the Community Garden in Connah’s Quay, Flintshire for mini beast painting, bug hunts and making a bug hotel, kicking off at 1pm on Wednesday May 31st.
Bike Week is celebrated from June 5th – 11th when we will hold our Pedal Power Parade, displaying a trail of decorated bikes at Alyn Waters Country Park. During half term everyone is invited to get their creative juices flowing and join in the community workshops on Tuesday May 30th & Wednesday May 31st from 11 am-2 pm at Alyn Waters Country Park, Wrexham to decorate bikes for display at the Parade.
Wild Ground have two nature sessions running on Thursday 1st June at their Lane End nature reserve near Buckley, Flintshire, with a fun nature and craft event creating mosaics inspired by nature. There are 2 sessions on this day 10 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 3 pm and when booking families must state which session they prefer.
On Friday 2nd June from 10 am – 12.30 pm sign up for a walk through beautiful Broakoak Woods in Connah’s Quay led by one of the most respected foragers and naturalists in the North of England, David Winnard . He will be uncovering the secret wildlife on our doorstep and this walk is perfect for beginners and experts alike.
Throughout half term including Bank Holiday weekend, Minera Lead Mines is open for family walks, picnics and the chance to enjoy nature. The refreshed interpretation in the visitor centre will be open to view along with refreshments and ice creams available, toilet facilities and free parking.
All the activities on offer are FREE, but booking is essential for most events as spaces will be limited.
