We Care
We Care is a new project funded through the Welsh Government Enabling Natural Resources and Well-being Grant and is being delivered by Groundwork North Wales in Wrexham and Gwynedd. The programme will develop and deliver local environmental improvements to transform neglected green spaces into new green community assets that everyone can benefit from.
In Wrexham the project got off to a flying start with a volunteer litter pick at Stryt Las Nature Reserve in Johnstown. Geraint Hughes, Project Officer said, “We picked up lots of bags of litter and really cleaned up and improved the environment at Stryt Las Park which is an important habitat for the Great Crested Newt. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the day. “
Informal, friendly volunteer sessions will now run in the area every Thursday from 1.30 pm – 3.30pm (Town Centre pickups are available) where everyone is welcome to get outside, get active and meet new people.
The We Care team are also looking to recruit people who are currently not in employment to join a 12 week Green Team programme, which will run 2 days a week with one day participating in an active community day and one day gaining up to 5 qualifications.
This exciting new programme will run for 3 years and will develop an ongoing long term volunteer team as well as offering one off workshops, education sessions, events and volunteering opportunities for the wider community.
