Thanks to funding from the City of Culture 2025 bid, along with support from the 3 Counties Connected Railway Partnership, Groundwork North Wales are excited to be hosting a Lantern Parade on 1st March 2023 in Wrexham City Centre.
The St David’s Day parade will celebrate Welsh culture and heritage including 175 years of the Chester /Wrexham/Shrewsbury/ Crewe Railway line as well as promoting sustainability by using recycled materials for lanterns.
If you’d like to join in the preparation in the run up to the parade, people can join one of our local lantern workshops. These lantern workshops will take place at Ty Pawb on 21st February from 1pm – 3pm, Minera Lead Mines on 23rd February from 10am – 12pm, and Wrexham Well-Being Hub on 23rd February from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

Hanna Clarke, Group Head of Marketing at Groundwork North Wales said:
“With the Lantern Parade just around the corner, we are excited to see the incredible lantern creations the local community have made. It is fantastic to be able to bring a new event to Wrexham’s City centre, not only celebrating Welsh culture and heritage but promoting a message of sustainability for future generations.
We hope that with the support of the local community and businesses we can make this an annual event.”
Join us at Queen's Square, Wrexham from 5.30pm for some street entertainment and a performance from Wrexham's Choir for Good. The parade will start from Queen's Square at 6pm, heading out along Queen's Street, turning right up Hope Street, another right under the Argyle Street Arch, and returning to Queen’s Square.
If you’d like to attend the Lantern Parade, no booking is required but we ask that you please register your interest through Eventbrite HERE.
