After hearing abut the important heritage and cultural aspects of the site you can then join the Visit Minera team on a guided walk from the Minera Lead Mines site to Minera Quarry and through Minera Village returning to the Lead Mines (approx. 2 miles and takes approx. 1.5 hrs). During the walk the team will tell you all about the conservation and habitat management of the site and surrounding area.

Naomi Chapple-Parry, project officer at Visit Minera said.

“The site at Minera has a fascinating history and has played a great part in the industrial heritage of the town. To share this with members of the local community that may not be aware and with a wider audience such as new visitors and tourists to the area is fantastic”.

The Visit Minera site has undergone some significant improvements recently. The Visitors Centre at the top of the site has had a complete overhaul and now features modern, bilingual, interactive interpretations telling the fascinating history of the site dating back Roman times.

Thanks to funding from the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme, administered by the WCVA we are currently holding regular volunteering sessions at Minera on a Tuesday to assist with the conservation and habitat management of the site and during the summer holidays we will have weekly family activity sessions.
