We are looking for three motivated individuals to join the Groundwork North Wales Group Board to help us embrace forthcoming opportunities and deliver our newly revised strategy.

Complementing existing skills on the current board we are keen to welcome new trustees with skills gained in Charity Retail, IT & Digital and Hospitality & Leisure alongside a passion for the environment.

Our trustees bring energy and enthusiasm to our Board, and contribute to the diversity of experience and thinking at Board level. The group comprises three organisations, Groundwork North Wales, Refurbs and Wild Ground.

Charity Retail Trustee

Refurbs accepts donations of reusable household items as well as acquiring merchandise through house clearance and bulky household waste contracts.  Sold through our retail showrooms in Flint we provide affordable furniture and furnishings and divert waste from landfill in the process.

We need a trustee with significant charity retail experience at a senior level, to help shape our retail strategy, and diversify and grow our offer so we can help more people in our communities struggling with the cost of living.  Someone who is able to offer advice to the board, CEO and senior management team on all aspects of a retail environment, this trustee will ideally have experience in the development of new product ranges and e-commerce.

IT & Digital Trustee

The Groundwork North Wales Group currently outsource all its IT and telephony services and have limited internal capability with regard to this significant business area.

We are seeking to appoint a new trustee to provide thought leadership on the role of digital in the organisation’s activities, across fundraising, communications, service delivery and operations, and help build and implement this vision. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight of the changing digital landscape including AI, its impact and best practices within the charitable sector, implementation of technology development or digital service development for the organisation.

Hospitality & Leisure Trustee

Groundwork North Wales operates two cafes, one at Alyn Waters Country Park, Wrexham and one in Buckley, Flintshire. The Caffi Cyfle brand (Café of Opportunity) is synonymous with supporting the local economy, environmental sustainability and supporting local communities. Our partnership work in the Clywedog Valley has afforded the opportunity to manage the Minera Lead Mines Museum, with potential to support other café and visitor attractions by way of Nant Mill and Kings Mill in the future.

We are seeking to appoint a trustee who can bring much-needed experience from within the hospitality, leisure, or tourism sectors, particularly if you have helped shape or manage the organisation’s strategic direction in this area.

With experience of developing and managing the service offer and balancing the profitability against cost to our clients and their well-being. The successful candidate will need to be able to offer advice to the board, CEO and senior management team on all aspects of the strategic development of our café, conferencing and visitor attraction offer.

Commitments

Applicants should note that Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term. Trustee positions are unremunerated, other than pre-agreed out of pocket expenses. Trustees attend up to 5 board meetings a year and are invited to join one of the organisation’s sub-committees as well as a Senior management and Board development day. Meetings can be face to face and virtual.
