Mental Health Week is being promoted from 15th – 21st May, this year under the theme of anxiety. There are a lot of factors that can influence anxiety, one increasingly evident example being money, and struggling to afford to buy food.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues, here at Refurbs we are committed to finding innovative ways to help our community save money. We’re inviting the local community to get involved in our free cooking workshops and community fridge.
Our free cooking workshops are designed to help people learn how to prepare nutritious meals on a budget. Led by staff at Caffi Cyfle, these workshops cover a variety of topics such as how to make the most of leftovers, how to utilise wilted or overripe produce and how to transform ingredients that are past their prime. Participants will also learn tips and tricks for meal planning, food shopping, and storing food to minimise waste.
Refurbs commitment to reducing food waste and supporting our community doesn’t stop there. We also run a free community fridge each Wednesday from 9:30am – 11:30am. This fridge is stocked with food surplus donated by supermarkets that would have otherwise gone to waste. Anyone in the community is welcome to come and take what they need.
Amy Cleary, Operations Manager at Refurbs, says “we believe these initiatives can help our community tackle the cost-of-living crisis by providing access to free food. By learning how to cook nutritious meals on a budget, people can stretch their pennies further and focus on other expenses.”
We encourage everyone in Flintshire to take advantage of these resources. Our cooking workshops are open to people of all skill levels, and our community fridge is available to anyone in need. Whether you’re a student on a tight budget, a single parent looking to stretch the budget a little further, or just someone looking to save a little extra money, we’re here to help.”
