Groundwork North Wales is the lead provider for Adult Community Learning for both Wrexham and Flintshire.
We have been delivering Adult Community Learning through this funding since 2018. This funding provides fully funded course for adults aged 19+ who reside in Wrexham and Flintshire, and is funded through the North East Wales Adult Community Learning Partnership through the Welsh Government Adult Community Learning Grant. We have recently been working with the Conwy Employment Hub to expand our offer to learners in Conwy.
The focus of our learning offer is:
- supporting learners taking the first steps into learning
- providing skills for life and embedding basic skills
- providing skills for independent living and skills for work
- providing skills to support the anti-poverty agenda
- contributing to personal development and wellbeing and developing active citizenship.
The target groups for our learners are those with low or no skills, low self-confidence, unemployed, low levels of literacy, numeracy, digital literacy skills, no formal qualification(s), geographical barriers that may hinder engagement and those with financial constraints. Our ethos is to deliver courses through a learner centred approach, meeting the needs of learners and communities with an informal and welcoming delivery style.
Our course offer covers the following areas, with all courses embedding literacy, numeracy and / or digital skills within them:
- Wellbeing
- Employability
- Family Learning
- Digital Skills
- Essential Skills
In 2024 – 2026, we have delivered over 1,000 courses for 6,670 learners attending 33,900 hours of learning in 121 different locations.
Our credentials
We are proud to have a dedicated team of tutors in house (link) with a wide range of skills and competencies to deliver our course offer. All our tutors are qualified, registered with the Education Workforce Council, are suitably DBS checked and have training in first aid, safeguarding and helath and safety. We have a number of Essential Skills Practitioners within the team across numeracy, literacy and digital skills provision, and provide our team with quality CPD opportunities.
We are an approved Agored Cymru Centre, offering low level accreditations for learners where appropriate.
We have recently been part of the ESTYN inspection for adult community learning provision in late 2025, which published a very positive report on the North East Wales Adult Community Learning (ACL) Partnership. The report highlights the partnership’s strategic approach, strong progress for learners, commitment to learners’ wellbeing and personal growth, and tutor expertise.
As an organisation, we are proud to hold respected quality marks including Investors in People and Investing in Volunteers, and to be recognised as a Disability Confident Employer. These accreditations reflect our commitment to professional standards, inclusive practice, and responsible governance across everything we do. Groundwork North Wales is a charity working to improve the natural environment and the places where people live, enhancing wellbeing and opportunities while responding to the climate and nature emergencies, and our values in our delivery reflect our embedded values as an organisation.
