Celebrating Outdoor Education Across Wales
Wales Outdoor Learning Week, is happening from 22 to 28 April, communities across Wales are gearing up to embrace a week-long celebration of outdoor education and nature exploration. This annual event, organised by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) in collaboration with the Wales Council for Outdoor Learning, aims to encourage teachers, education groups, and families to integrate outdoor learning into everyday life and reap the numerous benefits of connecting with nature.
The theme for this year's Wales Outdoor Learning Week emphasises the advantages of outdoor activities and promotes lifelong positive behaviours to address climate and nature emergencies.
Groundwork Training in partnership with North East Wales Adult Community Learning offer a programme called Wellies in the Woods” which captures exactly what Wales Outdoor Learning Week is all about - sessions combining classroom skills with outdoor experiences to create engaging learning opportunities. This innovative approach allows parents, carers, and teachers to enhance traditional learning through hands-on exploration in natural environments.
Sessions include wildlife exploration, creativity with nature and getting active with sessions based around some of the most popular children's story books!
- Bug Hunting
- Natural Crafts
- Games
- Den Building
- And more
"We believe in the power of outdoor education to inspire and educate," said Jo Pearce Community Leaning Lead "Our sessions encourage participants to apply classroom knowledge in practical, outdoor settings, fostering a deeper understanding of the natural world."
During Wales Outdoor Learning Week, participants are encouraged to take part in outdoor activities such as exploring local woodlands, beaches, or parks. By sharing their experiences online using the hashtag #WalesOutdoorLearningWeek, participants can contribute to the collective celebration of outdoor education.
