Working as a Reserve Officer

Wild Ground’s important work to engage, inspire and enthuse local communities to act together to protect wildlife, and enhance habitats is made possible through the hard work of Wild Ground Reserve Officers.

Recently appointed to Reserve Officer, Naomi Chapple-Parry is responsible for management of the nature reserves and for supporting and managing volunteer teams.

Naomi joined Wild Ground on a kickstart placement in June 2021 and made a great start within the organisation, and was nominated for a Kickstart trainee award through the Cheshire & North Wales Chamber of Commerce.

Naomi’s love of wildlife and nature came from watching David Attenborough and The Really Wild Show while growing up. She lived in a very small village, so the best form of entertainment was exploring the wildlife in local woods and helping at the local farms.

Naomi said, “The favourite part of my job is working with schools and the general public and showing them how important and interesting our wildlife and ecosystems are.”

“I really adore how excited the children get when they catch some sort of critter during a bug hunt or pond dip especially when it’s a newt!”

An interesting fact about Naomi is she once spent 2 weeks camping in Tanzania, right in the midst of leopard territory. It was a completely back to basics experience with no running water or electricity, all to follow and study yellow baboons!

Join Naomi at one of her volunteering sessions at Trefnant and Glascoed, Denbighshire every Wednesday morning.
